The new year. From Jan 1-3, most businesses are closed, even every bank machine in the country! But they have big sales, like Boxing Day in Canada. All the same, the streets are as quiet as they get on these days. Nothing deep with this strip, just a portrait of the day.

I love this one. It reads like a haiku, and the contrast between the quiet landscapes and the postmodern brutality of the store is striking.

I had a big debate with myself how to end it. Whether to keep it silent, or give it a "gag."

Amazingly, you call it haiku, but I've got it as the rhythm of a gag strip, like Nancy or Calvin & Hobbes. I think there's a lot of overlap between the two forms.

You're right, although what made me think of a haiku here is that this is a seasonal comic strip, which evokes the kigo aspect of traditional haiku.

All roads lead to sales... captures something about Hong Kong, too.
